View from Tabaretta Hütte (2550m)22 viewsThe first day of the ascent I started in Sulden from the office of Alpinschule Ortler (1900m). I took the path through the forest heading for Tabaretta Hütte. It was very hot, weather conditions where optimal. A lot of "older" people were blocking the path from time to time, but most of them made it apparently.

View from Tabaretta Hütte (2550m)18 viewsAround 12:00 i reached Tabaretta Hütte and enjoyed the sunshine from the terras. At this picture you can see the Vertain Spitze (the first one from the right) and the Grohe Angelus (3536m) which I made early to prepare myself for the Ortler ascent (it's the top with the big glacier on it).

View from Tabaretta Hütte (2550m)19 viewsSome other mountain peaks, don't know them all ;-) After a good meal I started the ascent around 14:00 towards the Julius Payer Hütte (3029m). From this point the hike gets a bit more interesting and less boring than the first part. Again a lot of people on the road, but I saw a lot of returns of those who underestimated the ascent (though it's not that hard ;)). Once arrived at Bärenjoch both Payer Hütte and the Nord flank of the Ortler were clearly visible (I just forgot to take pictures).

View from Tabaretta Hütte (2550m)18 viewsI arrived at the Payer Hütte around 16:00. In the evening I met my guide Gert. I had choosen to make the trip alone with Gert, because I don't want other inexperienced people to join our group.

Day 2 - going to the summit22 viewsAfter a nice evening stay we had breakfast the day after around 04:30. The evening before all our material was already prepared so me and Gert started as the first group to reach the summit. We left the Payer Hütte around 05:00. Weather conditions were good, not very cold and no wind (so far :)). No lights were needed because the sun was already breaking through. Around 05:40 we shot our first pictures.

Preparing for the via ferrata23 viewsMy personal guide Gert was very friendly in taking a lot of picture. From this point we will reach the via ferrata to go to Tabaretta Spitze (3150m). There are pictures at the end of this album to have a look how the via ferrata looks like.
